Advantages of LED panels and their applications

LED panels are gradually replacing analog city lights and billboards in the advertising market.

Digital LED screens can also be energy-efficient and durable, but their advantage is undeniable. Another advantage is their versatility, as modern panels can be installed in almost any space, both indoors and outdoors. LED panels look equally impressive in the dark and in daylight, including sunny weather.

What is an LED panel

An LED panel is a modern advertising medium that can be used both indoors and outdoors. The main feature of such a light panel is that you can independently apply any image or text to it. Moreover, the picture or text does not have to be static. Essentially, it is a familiar LED screen that displays certain information, which falls under Digital Signage. We discussed what this is here.

Previously, an LED panel consisted of a metal (or less commonly plastic) frame and an acrylic sheet with holes for the LEDs. The more LEDs there were, the brighter the intensity with higher power consumption. Let’s take a closer look at how LED panel technologies have changed, what the construction consists of, and what elements it includes:

Modern LED screens come in various types, such as modular ones for outdoor and indoor use. Both options are based on a thin aluminum frame that covers all internal elements with varying degrees of protection against moisture and dust. The frame also ensures the rigidity of the structure and may have both passive and active cooling systems.

Inside the frame, there are seals; special lenses with notches; an acrylic optical sheet with a pattern that creates a wavy light flow; and an LED strip. The strip can be arranged in any way: along the perimeter, diagonally, or otherwise. The light it emits hits the lens, then the reflector. After that, the light flow goes down and exits through a special diffuser. Thanks to the LEDs covering the entire screen, any complex image can be generated on such a panel.

The image quality directly depends on the number of LEDs and how close they are to each other. The LED backlighting creates a bright effect, similar to neon lighting. LED panels can display static or dynamic images of any complexity. Useful information, such as business hours or promotion dates, can also be displayed. It is important to decide in advance what you plan to show, as a panel with monochrome LEDs is generally much cheaper.

Software for LED screens helps you easily manage the content on your screens, ensuring effective and attractive information display.

Application area

The application area of LED is very extensive. Images on such screens look especially impressive at night or in darkened rooms, such as cinemas, bars, and nightclubs. LED screens are often used to broadcast various events, such as sports competitions, fashion shows, and exhibitions.

But most often, you encounter them in shopping centers. LED panels are an excellent way to inform visitors about ongoing promotions, the opening of new stores, the arrival of new collections, and much more. Besides this, they are used:

– As indicators with static or dynamic images;

– For displaying running text or promotional videos in the store’s checkout area;

– As a stationary image for advertising a specific product;

– In windows or on building facades to attract attention to the store.

LED panels are often chosen for events. This is not permanent advertising, but a temporary structure needed for a certain period, such as for an exhibition, fair, concert, etc.

Features of LED panels

LED panels can be conditionally divided into three main types:

– SMD installations, where electronic components are mounted on the board;

– LED matrices, equipped with a centralized video control system and known for their long service life;

– Clusters, the most complex type, consisting of groups of diodes housed in a compound-filled case.

Currently, the market demand for clusters is less than that for SMD installations and LED matrices.

Depending on the location of the panel, there are two types of screens:

Outdoor: Used outside, mainly for external advertising. These panels are particularly durable, as they must operate under various weather conditions. They also need to be bright enough to be clearly visible even on sunny days.

Indoor: Designed for indoor use, where there is no aggressive external influence. Indoor LED panels are cheaper, but the image quality requirements are stricter, as people view them from a closer distance.

Additionally, LED panels can vary in shape, size, brightness, and screen power. They can be flexible constructions, media facades, static signs, and much more.

LED panels for indoor and outdoor use differ because they are operated under different conditions:

– The brightness of LED backlighting in indoor panels is reduced, leading to lower energy consumption.

– The casing of indoor screens is simpler, as it doesn’t require enhanced protection against external influences, unlike outdoor panels. This directly affects the cost: indoor LED screens are generally cheaper.

– Pixel density is higher in panels used indoors, allowing viewers to comfortably view content from a close distance.

Technologies have now advanced further, leading to the creation of large LED panels that resemble televisions. They have started competing with large household TVs and may eventually replace them in everyday use.

As LEDs become cheaper, the variety of LED equipment increases. You don’t even necessarily need to buy it – renting might be more cost-effective, especially if you have a temporary project or are just starting to use this method of information dissemination.

Digital Signage software, particularly a Digital Signage player, will help you easily manage the content on your screens, ensuring effective and attractive information display.

Advantages of LED panels

The use of LED panels is invariably linked to advertising. This can be direct advertising of certain services or products, or information about a place or event. In any case, LED screens are very popular, and their popularity continues to grow for many reasons:

1. Static advertising has become boring. The consumer’s eye has become desensitized, and banners no longer attract attention. However, dynamic images capture the attention of up to 90% of passersby.

2. Of those who start watching such an advertisement, more than 60% will watch it to the end. The exact figure depends on how well the advertisement is made.

3. There is an opportunity to create truly interesting and dynamic video clips. A high level of detail will showcase the best aspects of your product.

4. LED panels work with most types of modern content: slide shows, animations, videos, and much more.

5. Unlike many other types of outdoor advertising, LED panels have perfect visibility in all weather conditions and at different times of the day. They are UV resistant and do not fade in the sun. Even panels designed for indoor use can withstand temperature fluctuations from -30°C to +50°C.

6. Changing the content displayed on the screen takes literally 5 minutes. The main thing is to know how to do it.

7. LED panels are highly reliable. Just think about it: at least 50,000 hours of continuous operation.

8. Ease of installation. Installing such an LED screen is not complicated at all. Of course, it depends on the size of the equipment, but there should be no difficulties.

9. LED panels have rich functionality. There is also the possibility of adding additional modes, such as sound effects or weather forecasts.

10. Combining LED screens can create truly masterpiece visuals that will be remembered by everyone who sees them.

11. LED screens are easy to maintain. Simply keep the surface clean. There are no other requirements.

Moreover, the brightness of LED panels can be adjusted manually or automatically thanks to sensors. This allows you to control the brightness during dark and light times of the day and save electricity.

How an LED panel helps business

Why do businesses choose LED panels? It’s simple. This is an excellent way to make a statement, attract potential customers to a product or service. For example, store owners in dark areas note that after installing such a sign, the store’s profit increased. What else can an LED panel influence if used correctly:

– It can increase the average purchase amount, as you can now visually show the customer what promotions are currently available in the store.

– The number of visitors to the store will increase because it will become more noticeable.

– High-quality dynamic videos influence the company’s image and encourage new purchases.

– You can set up video from the POS terminal and connect it to an online cash register.

– Encouraging the customer to participate in promotions, which again allows increasing the purchase amount and getting rid of a specific type of product.

– Retaining regular customers is more profitable and easier with such content than attracting new customers through other types of advertising.

However, it is important to understand that it is not enough just to buy or rent an LED panel. You need to generate truly high-quality content that will work for you and learn how to use all the advantages of the LED screen.

However, it is important to understand that it is not enough just to buy or rent an LED panel. You need to create truly high-quality content that will work for you and learn how to use all the advantages of the LED screen. This is where the Digital Signage system, which provides centralized content management on all your screens, comes in handy. Digital Signage management software allows you to quickly and conveniently change content, adapting it to the current needs of your business.

How to choose an LED panel

Since an LED panel is not a budget-friendly item, it is important to understand what to look for when purchasing or renting one. In the case of renting, the company is interested in offering you the most suitable option, but when buying, they might try to sell you something that is not entirely relevant to your needs. So, what should you consider:

– Pixel pitch size. The closer the pixels are located, the higher the additional costs will be. You need to evaluate the image on the screen from the distance at which the potential customer will be. It is important that it is comfortable for the eyes and that the image is not distorted.

– Size. Determine in advance where you plan to use the LED panel and take all necessary measurements. Be sure to consider mounting options.

– Minimum distance. Check what the minimum distance from the image should be for it to be well perceived. Assess whether this result suits you.

– Brightness. For indoor use, you need a brightness of at least 1500 nits, while for outdoor use, you need at least 6000 nits or more.

– Viewing angles. Check how the image is perceived from different angles. People do not look at the picture directly; they might be walking from the side, and their viewing angle will change as they move. This point is important to ensure your audience can easily perceive the information.

– Equipment reliability. Remember that the functionality and reliability of the accompanying equipment are also important. Attention should be paid not only to the panel itself.

A digital signage system allows you to effectively manage all this equipment, ensuring reliability and ease of use. Digital signage software provides convenient content management and supports all the necessary functions for the successful operation of your LED panel.

In summary, an LED panel is a powerful advertising tool that guarantees you will be noticed. Dynamic, vibrant images always attract attention. Therefore, when used correctly, LED panels can bring you new traffic. There are many types of such screens, and choosing the right LED panel depends on the tasks at hand, the duration of the advertising campaign, and a number of other factors.
